Gergely Koncz: Vegyes gyümölcs (Mixed Fruit) – Album Release Concert and Transylvanian Mezőség Dance House

Our musical heritage is so rich and so diverse that the metaphor of an orchard inevitably came to mind. Fruit should never be left to rot. Nor this one… And besides, I know that among ourselves we’ll simply call it “Mixed Fruit,” and that will always bring a smile. I hope so. Let it be so!

What we have now tried to play are fruits of many kinds, varied in birthplace, era, and type. Some may be overripe or tart in our hands, some perhaps picked too early, and some sweeter. Here and there you may sense if one has already begun to “turn.” But that is no shame. We gathered those too, because what may not shine on the outside can be a ripe delicacy within, for those who appreciate it. Or it may be good for cooking down. And in the end, even what falls to the ground still serves the earth.

So I do not regret that there is not more right now. What we have should not go to waste.

Our instrumental music was like this as well. In its homeland it caused no destruction, left no waste behind. It remained part of eternal life, together with its instruments and the memories and earthly remains of its musicians. And it was precisely its fleeting parts that became everlasting. The fruit that grew from them must be cherished.

The evening will be especially delightful for lovers of the Mezőség region, as after the concert there will be an unusual dance house: from 8:30 PM until midnight, the walls of Fonó Budai Zeneház will resound exclusively with Mezőség music. There will be ample opportunity to revel in the masterpieces of Mezőség folk tradition.
